Faith, Fun & Friendship

Growing Together

Our Midweek Ministries provide a welcoming place for kids and students to grow in their faith, build lasting friendships, and serve others. Through Awana, Christian Service Brigade, and GEMS, children experience age-appropriate biblical teaching, engaging activities, and intentional discipleship that help them know Jesus and live out His love in everyday life.

Our Philosophy

Awana Clubs is built on our 3B ministry philosophy of child discipleship: Belong, Believe, Become. Children build spiritual resilience when they feel they belong to Jesus, when they believe in the truth of the Bible and then become disciplemakers in their own right.

AWANA stands for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed and is based on the importance of memorizing verses from the Bible, described in 2 Timothy 2:15, “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.”

AWANA clubs are filled with fun, friendships, learning scripture and Biblical principles, games and other great activities.  All PCC child-safety protocols are in place during AWANA

GEMS Girls’ Club at Portage Community Chapel

Girls in 1st-12th grade and women of all ages

Founded in 1958, GEMS (Girls Everywhere Meeting the Savior) has a heart to see girls everywhere joyfully loving God and others – equipped, motivated, and passionately living out their faith. We provide Biblical answers to the challenges girls face, reminding them they are seen, known, and loved by God.

Each week, girls enjoy gym games, Bible lessons, crafts, and music. Throughout the year, we host special events including: camping trips, service projects, baking days, holiday celebrations, family nights, a Lock-In event, and weekend get-togethers.

We welcome all women of faith – whether you are a mom, grandmother, aunt, sister, or simply someone with a heart for mentoring girls – to join our ministry team. (background check required)

Together, we can help the next generation of girls grow in Christ and shine His light in the world!

Help make a difference

Midweek Ministries are made possible through the faithful investment of adult volunteers who are willing to spend time encouraging and mentoring kids each week. Dads and other men are especially invited to step in as mentors—building relationships, modeling Christlike character, and making a lasting impact in the lives of boys as they grow in faith, confidence, and leadership.

You don’t need to be an expert—just someone who is willing to show up, encourage, and walk alongside the next generation. Consistent adult volunteers and leaders help create a welcoming and supportive environment where kids can learn about God, build friendships, and grow together.

To help maintain a safe and trusted environment for every child, all regular volunteers must complete a background check that will be kept on file with Portage Community Chapel.

If you’re interested in serving, please take a moment to complete the Adult Volunteer Registration. If you plan to volunteer regularly, be sure to also complete the Background Check Form.

Encourage the Next Generation of Girls

GEMS is strengthened by caring women who are willing to invest in the lives of girls each week. Moms and other women are especially invited to serve as mentors—building meaningful relationships, modeling Christlike character, and encouraging girls as they grow in their faith and confidence.

Volunteers help create a welcoming and supportive environment where girls can learn about God’s love, build friendships, and discover the unique ways He has gifted them. You don’t need to have all the answers—just a willing heart to listen, encourage, and walk alongside the next generation.

To help maintain a safe and trusted environment for every child, all consistent volunteers and leaders are required to complete a background check that will be kept on file with Portage Community Chapel.

If you are interested in serving with GEMS, please take a moment to complete the Background Check Form below.
