Board of Oversight

Portage Community Chapel

The Board of Oversight serves as the spiritual guardians and shepherds of our church, following the biblical model of eldership found throughout the New Testament (Acts 20:28; 1 Peter 5:1–3; Titus 1:5–9). These qualified and mature leaders provide prayerful wisdom, accountability, and direction to ensure that our doctrine, leadership, and ministry remain faithful to God’s Word. Elders are called to shepherd the congregation with humility and care, to protect the church from false teaching, and to support and encourage our pastors and staff. Their role is not to rule by authority alone but to serve as Christ-like examples who help guide the church toward spiritual health, unity, and mission.

Nathan & LaRee live in Rootstown and have three children: Elijah, Azariah, and Micaiah. The Borings strive to intentionally share a love for the Bible and God’s character through their investments in community and multi-generational family.

Nathan supports his family by working as an engineer for an Akron-based MEP design firm.

He was active in the local steelworkers union for over 30 years, eventually serving as local union president for 8 years before retiring. The Hyslops began attending PCC in 1993 after being impressed with the lessons their daughters were learning in AWANA.

Bill has been a trustee for many years, served in the choir, MAP ministry, and Bible study group leader. Bill serves as a board member for Shepherd’s House and PCC Properties.

John has been a member of PCC since 1978 and became the choir director in 1980. He was married in 1983 to his wife Valerie for 37 years before she went home to be with the Lord on July 29, 2021.

Tyler grew up in Doylestown with his parents and twin brother. He became a born again believer at an early age and was baptized as a teenager. He went on to receive a B.S. Degree in Biology from Ashland University in 2018. Since then, he’s worked in the Quality Department for a Chemical Contract Manufacturer. Tyler enjoys discussions around the Bible, apologetics, and intelligent design, along with playing a good boardgame.

He and his wife Kaylen moved to Ravenna after they got married April 2022. Just one month later, they started attending PCC. Since then, he and his wife have served in several ministries. Tyler currently serves as an ABF teacher, Electives teacher, Youth Group Leader, and worship team member.

Matthew and his wife, Laura, have three children—Adelina, Emma, and Bennett. In his free time, he enjoys soccer, baking, board games, and hiking. Matthew especially appreciates PCC’s family atmosphere—small enough to know most people, yet continuing to grow.

His favorite verse is John 15:5, which reminds him of the importance of abiding in Christ.
